About Jiffy Lube
Jiffy Lube International (JLI) is an automotive service company that operates in the United States. They are owned by Shell Oil, and their company headquarters is located in Houston, Texas. Their principal business is oil changes, but their shops also offer a wide range of automotive maintenance services. JLI has over 2,000 franchised locations that serve over 20 million customers each year.
JLI is the largest franchise automotive service center system in America with over 250 franchise entities running their shops. Unlike many competitors, every one of their shops are run by these franchisees. The company is known for having low prices while still providing top quality products and services.
JLI Services
Along with fast oil changes, Jiffy Lube offers inspections, preventative maintenance and cleaning of engine parts. They frequently run specials and offer coupons, making their services even more affordable. When owners bring in their vehicle to a franchised shop for service, the vehicle undergoes a complete check-up including exterior lights, engine filters and coolant level. The standard oil change prices they quote in their advertisements include up to 5 quarts of oil.
Other services offered include checking and filling the power steering fluid reservoir, transfer case fluid, differential fluid, transmission fluid and battery electrolyte. When having a car serviced, the vehicle will also have its windows cleaned and the interior carpet vacuumed.
Preventative Maintenance Services
JLI also offers maintenance-related services including the servicing of belts, filters, air conditioners and brakes. Their shops can also do state inspections and emissions testing in locations where this is required, as well as windshield repair and both transmission and cooling system service. Alongside these standard maintenance services, these shops also offer more advanced inspections of drivetrain, electrical and fuel system components.
Certified Professional Technicians
JLI employs over 20,000 highly skilled professional technicians to work in their service centers across the U.S. The company has their own internal training program called “Jiffy Lube University” (JLU) that all technicians must pass before they can work in their shops. This training includes technical proficiency and computer-based training followed by on-the-job training with supervision by experienced technicians. This program is highly regarded, and the company has even been cited by the National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) as an Accredited Training Provider.
History of the Company
Jiffy Lube may be known for low prices, but since its foundation, the company has been principally driven by innovation. Founded in 1971 by Edwin Washburn in Ogden, Utah, the success of the first shop led to the creation of a franchise system that spread across the country.
By the time JLI went public in 1987, the company had expanded to over 1,000 franchises, and then reached 1,500 locations in the 90s. Expansion continues, cementing its place as one of the biggest service providers in America.

For some strange reasons they charge me $115.00 for oil change! Quite a lot, according to Jiffy prices. The most expencive is $100.00….
I just paid $144.00 for a full synthetic oil change they didn’t vacuum, check my tires coolant or anything else for that matter so I call the corporate office who took down my info so that the store owner/manager could call me and tell me that I was lucky to get that price because according to him my truck being a Diesel pick up that it will cost $190.00 for an oil change and that I could go back to the shop and have them check everything else but he would not give me any discount for them not doing any of the routine checks and I would have to drive back to there shop to have it done. I was a loyal customer and have a fleet of trucks and cars 15 to be exact and will never go back to Jiffy Lube again.
Got here at 8336 rivers ave to get oil change done. 136.00 for full synthetic. Please tell my why its so expensive? I even had a 15.00 off coupon.
Hello,
I decided to go to Jiffy Lube for the first time today, and I will never go back again. The manager asked what kind of oil I wanted, and I said I didn’t know because I’m not a car expert. I said I wanted whatever the “normal” type of oil is. He put in the $90 Pennzoil Platinum oil, without giving me the quotes until after the fact. I have never had an oil change for over $50. I believe he took advantage of me, and I got completely screwed. If I don’t get a refund of some type, I will not be crossing this establishment’s doorstep ever again.
Thank you
My wife went to jiffy and got an oil change done. And they noticed the passenger wiper was coming off on the front windshield.. So she told them to just replace it not thinking it would cost much to replace, they never told her a price on one.. $30 FUCKN DOLLARS later for a new wiper, plus an oil change over 100 bucks for oil change and 1 new wiper.. Never going there again
I paid 109.89 and had full synthetic. I left went to the dentist and my car started overheating. I had to get back by stopping every 5 minutes and filling my radiator til I returned to Jiffy Lube.I requested any footage of who was working near my radiator after the the tech informed me that I had a leak in my radiator. He flashed a a light on a spot that looked like it could be a leak since it was wet.I went home and ordered a radiator online from Ebay.I had a mechanic that came to my garage to tell me that I only needed 1 small hose located above the radiator. We replaced a couple of the other while he was doing it. It cost me 125.00 versus the 1700.00 I was quoted at Jiffy Lube. By the way they told me that no one even checked my coolant level and when I looked,I noticed that they also did not check brake fluid, battery water fluid, transmission fluid or any of the other things that they are supposedly trained and advertised as doing. They even advertised that they vacuum your car. I had a 20.00 off coupon and still paid 110.00 .
There was no Jiffy about it…We also brought in a 2004 Rx8 with a 4 year old radiator .We had the oil flushed and regular oil change which cost over 100.00 also with a coupon.
Again I guess they did not check the advertised fluids especially the coolant. Later a couple months later when the car still misfired after a tune up and then finally when the vehicle blew black smoke and stalled, we found antifreeze in the oil. This could have been avoided if they had checked, because they THE PROFESSIONALS THAT HAVE BEEN TRAINED TO CHECK ALL OF THESE FLUIDS, would have seen rust in the antifreeze. They knew that the reason for flushing the oil was that the vehicle had not been used on a regular basis. We had only put 1500 miles on it in 2.5 years. Someone had ran a red light and totaled our other vehicle so we needed to use this vehicle on a regular basis. Knowing this being the professionals that they are supposed to be, you would think that they would at the very least do what they advertise. As professionals they should have suggested they we also flush the coolant system!! So there you go. I first think that they are rip offs. I could have gotten the same oil change for half the price, without someone poking into my hoses. Especially when they aren’t checking anything in that area! Second of all I don’t think that they are these trained professionals that they are touted to be. They may have one on the premises but the rest are minimum wage employees that get minimum wage training… and I have an extra BMW radiator ( I ended up getting it for free) and probably a blown engine because of it.
I believe that they are independently owned or I hope so , but I would beware.
